ENGIE will acquire 100% of IGNIS Luz, the SME energy supply division of the integrated energy group IGNIS. The transaction is expected to be completed by mid-2026, subject to the relevant regulatory approvals.
Headquartered in Madrid, IGNIS Luz has experienced significant growth since its launch in 2021. Today, it supplies energy to more than 50,000 customers across Spain, with a strong focus on businesses.
This acquisition strengthens ENGIE’s presence in the Spanish market, consolidates its position across the energy value chain and represents an important milestone in its global growth strategy in energy supply for business customers.
ENGIE is a global reference in the energy transition, committed to accelerating the transition towards a carbon-neutral economy. Present in 30 countries, the Group operates across the entire energy value chain, from energy generation to infrastructure and supply. ENGIE is one of the world’s leading energy suppliers, serving more than 2000,000 BtoB customers. By 2030, the Group aims to supply over 300 TWh of electricity to businesses and residential customers. To support this ambition, ENGIE continues to strengthen its energy supply activities in key European markets, with a clear objective: delivering reliable, competitive and simpler energy solutions that create long-term value for customers.
For its part, through this transaction, the IGNIS Group advances its strategy by maintaining its integrated profile within the energy sector and focusing its energy supply and solutions activities on large consumers. IGNIS will also continue to pursue growth as an independent power producer (IPP), with more than 1 GW of owned generation plants in operation and under construction, and as a strong energy management and asset management company, with 10 GW of operational assets under management across all technologies.
Loreto Ordóñez, CEO of ENGIE Spain, stated: “This transaction is a key milestone in our growth strategy in Spain and reflects ENGIE’s commitment to the Iberian Peninsula and to the development of a carbonneutral economy. We have an ambitious roadmap and a firm conviction that, through innovation, technology, and our experience, we can accelerate the energy transition and support our customers on their path to decarbonization.”
Jean-Nicolas Lejeune, Managing Director of ENGIE Supply & Energy Management activities in Iberia, added: “The combination of IGNIS Luz and ENGIE opens a new chapter in the Spanish energy BtoB market. It is an honor to welcome such a talented team to build this new chapter together.”
Santiago Bordiú, CEO of IGNIS Energy, commented: “Thanks to IGNIS’s vision and drive, in less than five years IGNIS Luz has established itself as a benchmark energy supplier for SMEs. With its integration into ENGIE, this success story will undoubtedly continue. At IGNIS, we will keep delivering bestinclass energy supply and decarbonization solutions to datacenters and industries, leveraging our integrated capabilities within the energy sector and our flexibility to adapt to our customers’ needs.”
Martín Ogueta, CEO of IGNIS Luz, said: “This transaction marks a major milestone in the history of IGNIS Luz and for all its employees. We were born and grew under the umbrella of a major group, IGNIS, and are now joining ENGIE, a global energy leader with whom we will embark on our next phase of growth. To achieve this, we will develop new products and solutions and accelerate the digital transformation of our business and our customer experience.”
